SUBSIDISED FOOD WASTE DIGESTERS FROM WILTSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

Don’t miss out on the latest green gadget

Up to a third of the average household bin in Wiltshire is made up of food waste. If you have a garden composter then you can put vegetable peelings and egg shells in there. However, cooked kitchen waste is taken by lorry to be buried in landfill where it rots and creates the greenhouse gas methane. It’s a relatively expensive and environmentally unsound practice.

So Wiltshire County Council has launched a pilot scheme to tackle the issue. It is offering subsidised food waste digesters that can deal with raw waste from food preparation and left-over cooked waste from the average household – including such traditionally difficult to dispose of items such as dairy products, bones, meat, fish and cooked food.

There are two types of digesters on offer.

The Green Cone is just £20 for home delivery. The normal retail price is £79.95.

The second type is called the Green Johanna. This is larger than the Green Cone but has added the bonus of also taking garden waste and producing compost. This is available for £25 compared to the normal retail price is £108.94.

Order yours from the special free hotline number 0800 019 2064 or order via the website
www.greencone.com

(online orders attract a further £1 discount). For more information see
