This is what "YOU TOLD US" you wanted to see being done in Melksham and what the Partnership proposes to do about it:

Page 1 : Town Centre Improvements, Economic Development, Travel and Transport, Environmental Improvements.
Page 2 : Community Safety, Our Communitities, Social Inclusion and Community Learning, Arts for All.
Page 3 : Children and Young People, Sports and Leisure, Communication and Information.

You were concerned about safety and what is seen as a growing problem of anti social behaviour and petty crime. You want local people and organisations to be involved in community safety activities that:

  • Improve a sense of personal
    security.

  • Introduce CCTV where appropriate.

  • Provide productive outlets for young people's energy.

The Partnership will work with the police, property owners, young people and the Community Safety Partnership to take forward this work.

You recognised that the Melksham Community Area is not a 'single place'. There are many separate villages (even within one parish) and discrete communities within the main town.

  • Atworth.
  • Beanacre.
  • Berryfield.
  • Bowerhill.
  • Broughton Gifford.
  • Forest and Sandridge.
  • Shaw and Whitley.

Through consultation and targeted community development work, the Partnership will support projects developed to serve the specific needs of these and other local communities.

You told us that access to learning facilities such as IT training should be
available for everyone all the time, not just young people. No one in the area
should be excluded from those opportunities..

The Community Plan will therefore support projects that:

  • Provide learning and training support for individuals and for
    local voluntary groups.
  • Make better use of existing facilities such as those at George
Ward School, Melksham College and in local businesses.
  • Make better use of village schools.

The Partnership will work with the colleges, schools and learning partnerships on these issues..

You told us that you wanted better facilities for the arts in the area, and for local people to have the chance to get involved. There are already active groups in the area working in the visual arts and poetry.

We want to support projects that will:

  • Support local artists and participation in the arts by
    local people.
  • Encourage the development of facilities including a gallery
    and museum.
  • Promote public art.

The Partnership will work with local groups and arts agencies to develop this role..

Projects described as Coming Soon are agreed and work is in hand to put them in place. • • • • • • • • • • •

Projects described as In Progress are at various stages ranging from a simple statement of the idea through to schemes submitted for support but not yet approved.
