Melksham
has a strong sense of local community. It is fortunate
to have a sound economic base and relatively low unemployment,
but the town is not affluent, the town centre is struggling
against competition from nearby towns and it is difficult
to secure inward investment and to attract quality retailers
and other services.
The
villages in the community area look to the town for
provision of employment, shops, leisure, healthcare
and other services.
This
Plan aims to:
- build
on the good things already under way and keep up the
momentum to maximise the benefits for Melksham and
its community area.
- promote
a positive image of the area and raise its profile
in the region and with potential investors.
- reflect
the ideas and priorities identified through consultation.
- encourage
local people and organisations to develop projects
under each of the themes identified in the Plan.
